The North American Hockey League (NAHL) held its inaugural Futures Draft for 2009 birth years and two PHC players from the 15U AAA were selected: forward Noel Donohue and defenseman Jack “Cade” Bruning.
Donohue, who was selected by the Northeast Generals, had 34 points (15 goals and 19 assists) in 30 total games played between the Atlantic Youth Hockey League (AYHL) and North American Tier 1 Hockey League (NAT1HL). The Philadelphia, PA native also played two AYHL games for PHC’s 16U AAA team recording a point in two games.
Bruning, who was selected by the Philadelphia Rebels, had seven points (4 goals and 3 assists) in 32 combined games between the AYHL and NAT1HL. Bruning resides in Fallston, MD.
The two will be automatically added to their respective team’s USA Hockey Affiliate Player List for the 2025-26 season. This special status allows them to participate in up to 10 NAHL games without being added to the team’s official USA Hockey Protected List. It offers a unique opportunity for players to gain valuable junior hockey experience while continuing to play at the midget, high school, or prep school level while keeping all future options open.
NAHL teams will hold exclusive rights to their Futures Draft picks through March 10, 2026. If a drafted player has not been added to the team’s official USA Hockey Protected List or signed to an NAHL tender agreement by that date, the player becomes a free agent and is eligible to sign a tender agreement with any team in the NAHL.
